The New Speakers of Wymysorys: the reconstitution of the local language and sociolinguistic identity in Wilamowice
Robert Borges, postdoctoral fellow at the Hugo Valentin Centre, presents his research project. Wymysorys is a severely endangered West Germanic language, spoken in the town of Wilamowice, Poland, on the border between Silesia and Lesser Poland. Despite complete cessation of intergenerational transmission, a group of children and young adults have begun speaking the language again.
