Robert Borges, postdoctoral fellow at the Hugo Valentin Centre, presents his research project. Wymysorys is a severely endangered West Germanic language, spoken in the town of Wilamowice, Poland, on the border between Silesia and Lesser Poland. Despite complete cessation of intergenerational transmission, a group of children and young adults have begun speaking the language again.
Robert Borges received his PhD in linguistics at Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands, in 2014. The title of his dissertation was The Life of Language: Dynamics of language contact in Suriname. He has also written numerous articles.
